Investigation on tribological properties of heat-treated Al6061/WC/Gr HMMCs

Abstract : Al (6061) alloy castings are prepared in liquid metallurgy technique with Gr and WC particulates as reinforcement with 4 wt. % and 0-4 wt. % respectively are prepared. Castings are prepared as per ASTM standards and are T6 heat- treated. Ageing of the specimen is carried out at 1750C for different durations such as 1, 3 and 5 h. The heat treatment effect on the hardness, wear and coefficient of friction was explored for different compositions by varying wt. % of WC. optimal mechanical properties are noted when the materials are reinforced with 3wt. %WC and aged for 5 h.
