Abstract : Efficacy of a solar Photo Voltaic (PV) plant installed on the rooftop of an academic building is studied and a way to improve it is suggested which involves only a change in feeder connections. Demand reduction in the building's electrical load is then attempted by replacing traditional and lighting and ventilation fans with more energy efficient models. These energy efficient appliances being basically DC equipment, additional improvement is suggested in the form of DC distribution network of the PV system. Finally a smart monitoring system is devised for real time sensing and viewing of relevant parameters online.
