Abstract : The guidelines for management of children with type 1 diabaetes mellitus undergoing surgery is not strictly evidence based and is derved from adult protocols and wide clinical experince, It is better to plan an elective procedure when the targets for good glycemic control are met in children with type 1 Dm. For major surgery, the child is in a fasting state and hence is started on intravenous dextrose with pottasium and insulin infusion when glycemic targets are exceeded.
