Abstract : Motorcycle riders are much more likely to be injured or killed in the event of an accident when using roads as compared to other users of vehicles because of the limited amount of protection they have. In addition to helmets, this safety gear does not provide the rider an opportunity to detect crash impacts nor respond to them immediately. Advanced technology embedded in helmets may dramatically influence the improvement of rescue time for post-crash scenarios and, consequently, improve the injuries severity. Through the use of a sensor-based impact detection system that can be integrated into the rider’s helmet, the novel idea of "Motorcycle Rider Accident Crash Impact Detection using Force Sensing Resistor—A COMSOL-based Analysis" is presented in this work. This technology determines the crash’s severity by detecting the impact’s location and strength. The external force exerted on the helmet on impact time is tracked and measured through placing a force-sensitive resistor (FSR) in combination with a microcontroller. Once a predefined threshold has been surpassed by the detected force, an alert mechanism is activated by the system. This may include sending an SOS to emergency services or to the rider’s emergency contacts, now all based on the use of real-time location data to arrive as quickly as possible at a medical service provider. The system can integrate automatic wireless modules of communication, such as Bluetooth or GSM. These modules can send automatic messages with GPS coordinates of the rider’s position to emergency services. This saves significant time in bringing medical assistance, and this might save the person who gets involved in a critical accident from fatal outcomes. It is mainly because accidents on rural roads, which occur miles from the closest cities and require long hours to be noticed and reported, are often not known to anyone on time.
