Abstract : Many unprivileged communities and tribes across the world gained access to electricity with the installation of solar micro grids. The paper discusses the performance of such an installment for a three year period. The paper discusses the associated challenges and transformation of the system from a rural utility to a rural enterprise. The paper attempts to map user value framework to understand the transformation from a beneficiary perspective. The enhancements particularly the installation of the remote monitoring unit is analyzed for the framework. The Learning's from the analysis further resulted in a design of holistic intelligent system and expected leverage it provided is observed. The remote monitoring unit will measure the input and output parameters of the system and then transmitted to the research center where it is analyzed for representation. The Real-time analysis of data will represent the performance of individual units along with system perspective. The blackout models are derived from the represented data. The social, economic and technological challenges encountered during the transformation are also mentioned in brief. © 2017 IEEE.
