Abstract : This paper proposes a convex optimization method with an objective to minimize the operating cost of the microgrid (MG). The operating cost is minimised by optimal operation of various distributed generation (DG) units with renewable energy resources such as photovoltaic panel (PV) and Wind turbine (WT). Residential loads are connected to the microgrid, and the microgrid is connected to the main grid. The DG units are selected based on cost rate and load demand at a given time. The power is exchanged with the utility grid based on the power availability in the microgrid. The convex optimization based computation techniques are tested on the typical micro-grid and the simulation results are compared with other optimization techniques.
