Abstract : With the growing population, the power demand grows as well as with the requirement of power for various purposes. This calls for a continuous supply of power. The major source of power in the current scenario is the fossil fuels. Recently, the society has been leaning towards the renewable sources such as the solar, wind and hydro for the production of power. Irrespective of the source of power, the means by which the power is generated remains the same which is by using generator. The need to protect the generator becomes a priority. It requires a maximum protection from the faults that could possibly occur. The ability of the generator to act as a motor or as a generator based on its input energy puts forth the requirement of a reverse power protection of the generator. This paper discusses a MATLAB/Simulink model for the reverse power protection for a generator for an IEEE 5 bus system.
