Abstract : We fabricated a simple self-powered bio-photodetector based on biomaterial Nostoc commune as photoactive material. Nostoc commune is a cyanobacteria, generally found as colonies of filaments of moniliform cells in a gelatinous sheath. We collected the naturally grown algae from the neighborhood, and fabricated a device by sandwiching the free-standing biofilm between copper (Cu) and Fluorine-doped Tin Oxide coated glass slide. The fabricated device exhibits considerable photo-response on current-voltage measurement and shows self-powered photodetecting properties. The self-powered photodetector exhibits 390 nA photocurrent and 20 mV photovoltage without any applied bias with a rise and decay time of ∼0.2 s.
