Abstract : Efficient energy management and prevention of electricity theft are significant challenges in today’s power distribution networks. Traditional meters cannot provide real-time monitoring or detect unauthorized usage. This results in losses and inefficiencies. To address these problems, this work suggests a smart energy metering system. It combines consumption tracking, theft detection, and wireless communication between utilities and consumers. The system uses ACS712 current sensors and the EmonLib library to calculate essential electrical parameters. RF modules allow smooth data exchange, while LCD units offer real-time visualization. Theft detection works by comparing current measurements from the utility and consumer sides. Any discrepancies trigger alerts. The simulation in Proteus 8 Professional shows high accuracy in energy calculations, reliable communication, and effective detection of unauthorized loads. By providing a low-cost, flexible, and scalable framework, this study lays the groundwork for future hardware implementations and contributes to better secure metering solutions in smart grids.
