Abstract : This report deals with creation of a novel Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW)-based cavity filter. By incorporation of three metallic vias inside the cavity, two of which act as the commanding gate to provide the filtering action with moderate Q-factor. The filter design for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi was first optimized; the same technique is validated by designing a filter suitable for 5GHz applications. The design yielded Q Factors of 106 for 2.4GHz and 149 for 5GHz. All the simulations are done and validated using the software High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS).
