Abstract : An emulator, a customized device replicating dynamic system or software functions, often incorporates Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). FPGAs, chosen for benefits such as reduced power consumption, heightened processing speed, code reuse, and cost savings, surpass alternatives like microcontrollers, microprocessors, and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). Despite FPGA applicability varying based on specific demands, they can serve as a versatile test bed, even for Electric Vehicles (EV). This work details the development of a DC shunt motor emulator. Initial tests establish the continuous-time transfer function, leading to the creation of a discrete-time model. Utilizing a second-order digital Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter, the emulator is developed. The modeled speed and torque characteristics are compared with actual motor, revealing accuracy. This emulator stands out as a reliable test bed, promising applications across a spectrum of scenarios.
