The focus is on using research methods to improve the analytical bend of mind of students for the overall well-being of society.
The students take up topics related to film studies, Information Communication Technology, and integrated marketing communication, among others. Research work is encouraged even at the graduation level.
The department conducts research workshops by roping in persons of repute from universities both national and international.
The research works motivate students, as well as staff, to publish their articles in reputed national, and international journals. The published research articles of both students and staff are indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and Thomson. The department has collaboration with international universities, and this in turn help staff and students to produce quality research works. The students and staff of the department have presented their research papers at international conferences held in Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Japan among others.

Portfolio Enhancement
Portfolio enhancement allows our students to showcase their unique talents in producing short films/documentaries under the broadcast stream.
Under the new media stream they create blogs, get exposed to multi-media story telling, create content for various types of audience, and learn unique net design methods.
‘Documentation of the lifestyle of the Irula tribe in Gudular, Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, with an emphasis on Socio-economic development of the community’ funded by the Department of Science and Technology under the ‘Natural Resources Data Management System’ with a grant of Rs. 15.95 lakh. This project includes visual documentation of the problems of Irula tribes, and provide a solution.
Period of the project: October 2016 – 2018.
The students of the Department of Mass Communication got an opportunity to work for NABARD in the academic year 2018-19.
Students were asked to produce four videos on success stories of clients
of NABARD.
The shooting was done at four locations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The topics covered were: the Dharmapuri watershed project, the Waynad Green Tea Producer Company Limited, the Sahakari Coconut Oil, Kannur, and the Biowin at Wayanad.
NABARD sanctioned Rs. 2,40,000 for the project.
Students of final BA and MA who had opted broadcast as their specialised area got the opportunity to work behind the projects. Three staff guided four teams for the purpose.
The projects were submitted to the clients in August 2019.
