Best Scientific Presentation Award at XIII Annual State Conference of the Kairali Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists

In the recently held XIII Annual State Conference of the Kairali Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists at Hotel Dunes Cochin during March 05 - 06, 2016, Dr. Lisha Mathew, second-year postgraduate trainee, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, won the BEST SCIENTIFIC PRESENTATION AWARD in the case reports category, for her presentation titled: "Carcinoma Cuniculatum-A rare entity with a missed identity".

Around 35 PG students in Oral Pathology & Microbiology from various dental colleges in Kerala made presentations at this conference. Dr. Lisha received a trophy and a certificate for the best presentation. Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, is the co-author for this presentation.

Amrita School of Dentistry Students at Pedo Pearls '16- the 13th National Post Graduate Convention of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry

February 25-27, 2016

At the 13th National Post Graduate Convention of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (Pedo Pearls '16) at Hyderabad which was held during February 25-27, 2016, the first-year postgraduates in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Dr. Aravind Mohanan, Dr. Ajmal Najeeb and Dr. Baren Abraham, won second price in the short film competition. Their short film was titled “Ambiance and Attire – Modify and Prevail." The second-year postgraduates, Dr. Samith M. Pillai, Dr. Tinu George and Dr. Leena Menon, presented a poster titled “Bioesthetics – A New Horizon.”

Best Paper Award at 48th Kerala State Dental Conference - Aloha 16

January 08 - 10, 2016

At the 48th Kerala State Dental Conference- Aloha 16, hosted by IDA Alappuzha during January 08 - 10, 2016, Dr. Lisha Mathew, Second-year Postgraduate Trainee, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, bagged the Best Paper Award in the scientific paper presentations. Dr. Lisha presented a paper titled, "Carcinoma cuniculatum presenting as a destructive lesion of mandible- A rare entity with a missed identity", guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhana, Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry.

Best Scientific Paper Award at 3rd National Conference of the Forum of Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI) 

At the 3rd National Conference of the Forum of Ethics Review Committees in India held at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Postgraduate Medical Sciences, Lucknow, during December 10 - 11, 2015, the original research by Dr. R. Venkitachalam, second-year postgraduate resident in Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, was awarded best scientific paper award. The paper was titled - Profile of Institutional Ethics Committees in Dental colleges in Kerala- An Exploratory Study.

In the recently held National Conference of the Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) at Jaipur during November 20 - 22, 2015, Dr. Aiswarya A. Krishnan, second year postgraduate trainee, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry won the FIRST PRIZE in the scientific presentation category.

Dr. Aiswarya presented a rare case of "Lung Adenocarcinoma - Metastasis to the Mandible", which was guided by Dr. Vindhya Savithri, Reader, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry. 

Won accolades at the 12th Annual State Conference of AOMSI (Kerala Chapter) held at Palakkad

The postgraduate residents at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Amrita School of Dentistry won several accolades at the 12th Annual State Conference of AOMSI (Kerala Chapter) held at Palakkad during October 09 - 11, 2015.

  • Dr. Jinish Nath (2013 batch MDS) has won the BEST PAPER AWARD for his scientific paper titled “Application of Stereolithographic Models in Craniofacial Surgery." 
  • Dr. Aswathy Krishna S., (2015 batch MDS) bagged the second prize for her scientific paper titled ‘Profile Changes and Stability Following Distraction Osteogenesis in Adult Cleft Lip and Palate Patients."

September 26 - 27, 2015

Dr. Anju David, second-year postgraduate resident in the Department Oral Medicine and Radiology, Amrita School of Dentistry bagged the first prize for paper presentation at the Indian Academy Of Oral Medicine and Radiology (IAOMR) PG Convention held in Chennai during September 26 - 27, 2015. Her presentation was on case report titled "Cervical lymphadenopathy: a diagnostic dilemma."

Best Paper Award at the Eighth Indian Society of Prosthodontics, Restorative and Periodontics (ISPRP)

August 07 - 09, 2015

Dr. Arjun B. Ravi, Dr. Razdan T. R., and Dr. Nithin Mathew, final-year postgraduate residents in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry won the best paper award for presenting a scientific paper at the eighth ISPRP (Indian Society of Prosthodontics, Restorative and Periodontics ) Conference held at Mahe (MINDS) during August 07 - 09, 2015. The paper was titled "Seal to heal : predictable surgical method of treating external root resorption-a case report."

Best Paper Award at the National PG Convention of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP)

July 11-12, 2015

Dr. Litu Mary Thampy, final-year postgraduate resident, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, won the FIRST PRIZE (Best Paper) in the Scientific Paper Presentation Category at the National PG Convention of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) held at Vadodara on the 11th and 12th of July 2015. Her paper titled: "Quantitative analysis of AgNOR proteins in brush biopsies of oral premalignant and malignant lesions", was a study done as part of the short-term research for postgraduate residents and was guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology at Amrita School of Dentistry.

Best Paper Award at the 16th Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Indian Endodontic Society 

Dr. Devika R. Krishnan, second-year postgraduate resident in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, received the best paper award at the 16th Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Indian Endodontic Society (IACDE and IES) National Convention held at I.T.S Centre for Dental Sciences and Research, Muradnagar, Ghaziabad during June 04 - 06, 2015.

The scientific paper was titled, 'Restorative strategies of endodontically treated molars - A three dimensional finite element analysis study.'

Dr. Archana Vijayakumar, Dr. Arjun Thangaraj, Dr. Lakshmi Raj, Dr. Sagareka Choudhary, Dr. Apeksha Joshi and Dr. Gadha R. Pillai, interns of Amrita School of Dentistry had participated in the recently held 47th Kerala State Dental Conference held at Kannur during January 16-18, 2015. Dr. Archana Vijayakumar won the first prize and Dr. Arjun Thangaraj won the third prize in student category paper presentations. Dr. Gadha R. Pillai won the second prize for her paper presentation in prosthodontic category.

2014 International Pierre Fauchard Academy Undergraduate Student Scholarship

Annapurani R., third-year BDS student (2012 batch) was selected to receive the 2014 International Pierre Fauchard Academy Undergraduate Student Scholarship .She received a certificate and award of USD 300/-. The certificate and award was presented at the 28th Annual PFA Convocation and Awards Ceremony held on December 14, 2014, at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi.

At the 23rd National Conference of the Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) held at Chancery Pavillion, Bangalore from 28th to 30th November 2014, the scientific poster titled "ORAL CANCER: CHANGING TRENDS AND DIVERGING ROUTES" presented by Dr. Litu Mary Thampy, II year postgraduate trainee, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, was adjudged the BEST POSTER of the session. This poster, guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, was also selected as one among the 9 overall best posters, of a total of 310 student posters presented at the conference.

At the 26th National Conference of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology held at Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore from November 21-23, 2014, the poster titled "NANODENTISTRY: SMALL WORLD WITH BIG PROMISES" presented by Dr. Anju P. David, postgraduate resident in the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Amrita School of Dentistry was selected as one among the 15 best posters from a total of 175 posters.

27th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) & International Association for Dental Research (IADH) - India Division

October 31- November 2, 2014

Dr. Tharangini Madhusudanan, third-year postgraduate trainee, Prosthodontics, won the best scientific paper award at 27th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) & International Association for Dental Research (IADH) - India Division held at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, from October 31st to November 2nd 2014. Ms. Junia Devassy, Intern, received the prestigious “ISDR - T.V. Ramachandra Rao Memorial Award” for obtaining highest mark in Periodontics (171/200). This award instituted by the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) and the Indian Association for Dental Research (IADR), Chennai, is given to the dental undergraduate student(s) securing the top mark in various subjects of the Final Year BDS course. From among the toppers of various universities in India, Junia Devassy was selected for the top mark in Periodontics this year, representing the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University.

At the 36th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) held at Lucknow from 14th to 16th October 2014, postgraduate trainees at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry won accolades. Dr. Parvathy Sreekumar, second-year postgraduate trainee, won the best paper award (student category)  for her paper titled “Research on – Attitude and awareness of parents towards the first dental visit and oral hygiene habits of their children”. Dr. Samith Mohanan Nair, first-year postgraduate trainee, won the second best poster award (student category) for his poster titled “Smart Materials."

Dr. Thara Aravind and Dr. Deepa S., final-year postgraduate trainees, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, won the first and second prizes respectively for the scientific poster presentation in the 11th Annual Conference of the Kairali Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (KSOMP) held on September 14, 2014 . Around 30 PG students from dental colleges all over Kerala made scientific presentations at the conference. Dr. Thara presented a poster titled "Histopathologic evaluation of Oral Lichen Planus and Lichenoid Reaction - A comparative analysis" guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology. Dr. Deepa presented a poster titled "Dish Washing Soap as an alternative to Xylene-A comparative study" guided by Dr. Rakesh, Professor and Head, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology.

Dr. Balagopal Varma R., Principal and Head (Paediatric Dentistry), Amrita School of Dentistry, was an invited speaker at Pedo Pearls '16, the 13th National Post Graduate Convention of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, held at Hyderabad from February 25 - 27, 2016. The title of his presentation was “Saliva as a Diagnostic & Prognostic tool in Pediatric Dentistry."

Invited Talk and Paper Presentation at International Orthodontic Conference held at Srilanka

Dr Sapna Varma N. K., Professor & Head, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, School of Denstistry, was an invited speaker at the International Orthodontic Conference held at Srilanka during February 5th to 7th  2016. Her topic of presentation was “The Role Orthodontists In Diagnosis and Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.” Dr. Maria John Kuriakose, Professor, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, also presented a paper  on “Maxillary Protraction in Cleft – Benefit / Burden.”

At the 12th Annual State Conference of AOMSI (Kerala Chapter) held at Palakkad during October 09 - 11, 2015, Dr. Ravi Veeraraghavan, Professor and Head, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was invited as a keynote speaker to talk on “Current concepts in the management of Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumors.” Dr. Arjun Krishnadas (CMFS fellow) won second prize for his scientific poster titled “Alloplastic Total TM Joint Reconstruction: A Case Report.”

Best Paper Award in the 37th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry Conference (ISPPD)

October 08 - 10, 2015

Dr. Arun M. Xavier, Reader in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry won the best paper award in the 37th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry conference (ISPPD) held at Raipur during October 08 -10, 2015. The paper was titled, 'Preventive dentistry through a community based programme - A need of the hour'. This is the fourth consecutive year in a series Dr. Arun is winning the title for the 'best paper presentation' in a national conference. He was previously awarded at the national conferences held at Mangalore, Jaipur and Lucknow in the years 2012, 2013, 2014. He was recently announced a classified winner (2nd prize) for the Bright Smiles Bright Futures award at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Glasgow, Scotland (July 1 - 4, 2015).

Dr. Balagopal Varma R., Professor and Head, Department of Pediatric Dentistry & Principal of Amrita School of Dentistry received “STAR PEDODONTIST” award at the 37th National Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry held at Raipur during October 07 – 10, 2015.

This award is conferred by the Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry for his dedicated efforts and distinguished services as the Principal of Amrita School of Dentistry and for improvement of Scientific Education, Research and delivering health care and his contribution to the speciality.

 

 

Invited Talk at Sri Lanka Dental Association Eastern Regional Conference

April 25 - 26, 2015

Dr. Rakesh R. Rajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, was invited to conduct a one-day workshop on “Basic Concepts of Endodontics” as part of the Sri Lanka Dental Association Eastern Regional Conference during April 25 - 26, 2015, in Batticaloa. He also delivered the keynote address titled "Endodontics today and tomorrow", and a guest lecture on “Recent Advances in Endodontics".

25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) held at Glasgow, Scotland

July 1-4, 2015

  1. Prof. Dr. Balagopal Varma, Principal and Head, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry gave an oral presentation on the ‘Importance of comprehensive dental treatment & health education in Down Syndrome’ at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) held at Glasgow, Scotland, from July 1st  to 4th 2015.
    His session was chaired by Prof. (Dr) Terry Gregg (UK) and Prof. (Dr) Roger Hall (Australia), authorities in Orofacial Medicine.
  2. Dr. Arun Mamachan Xavier, Reader, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry was shortlisted from a large number of entries in the world to the last 4 finalists to compete for the ‘Bright Smiles Bright Futures Award’ in recognition of an innovative community oral health education program that motivates children and improves oral health habits at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) held at Glasgow, Scotland, from July 1st  to 4th 2015. He was announced as the Classified Winner (Second Prize) and won a certificate of Excellence, a cheque of 500 US dollars and a flower bouquet.  His paper was titled, ‘My Mama Cares for Me – A Proactive Dental Home Initiative’ co-authored by Dr. Radhamani K. (Professor & Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences) and Dr. Parvathy Sreekumar (PG Resident, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry). Dr. Arun Mamachan Xavier also gave a poster presentation on the topic, ‘Effect of carbonated beverages on aesthetic restorative materials – an in-vitro surface microhardness study’ at the congress.


 

Best Paper Award In III SRU-CITI International Conference on Ethics & Responsible Conduct of  Research: Basics and Beyond

November 11-12, 2014

Dr. Prem Anand P., Assistant Professor, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology received best paper award in the III SRU-CITI International Conference on “Ethics & Responsible Conduct of  Research: Basics and Beyond” organized by Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative, University of Miami, USA on 11th & 12th November 2014 at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, India. His paper was titled “Exfoliative cytology study of untreated cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma using Confocal Laser Microscopy: A study in search of subtle changes.”
