Interns of Amrita School of Dentistry Participates in the 47th Kerala State Dental Conference

Dr. Archana Vijayakumar, Dr. Arjun Thangaraj, Dr. Lakshmi Raj, Dr. Sagareka Choudhary, Dr. Apeksha Joshi and Dr. Gadha R. Pillai, interns of Amrita School of Dentistry had participated in the recently held 47th Kerala State Dental Conference held at Kannur during January 16-18, 2015. Dr. Archana Vijayakumar won the first prize and Dr. Arjun Thangaraj won the third prize in student category paper presentations. Dr. Gadha R. Pillai won the second prize for her paper presentation in prosthodontic category.

At the 23rd National Conference of the Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) held at Chancery Pavillion, Bangalore from 28th to 30th November 2014, the scientific poster titled “ORAL CANCER: CHANGING TRENDS AND DIVERGING ROUTES” presented by Dr. Litu Mary Thampy, II year postgraduate trainee, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, was adjudged the BEST POSTER of the session. This poster, guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, was also selected as one among the 9 overall best posters, of a total of 310 student posters presented at the conference.

Dr. Tharangini Madhusudanan, third-year postgraduate trainee, Prosthodontics, won the best scientific paper award at 27th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) & International Association for Dental Research (IADH) – India Division held at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, from October 31st to November 2nd 2014. Ms. Junia Devassy, Intern, received the prestigious “ISDR – T.V. Ramachandra Rao Memorial Award” for obtaining highest mark in Periodontics (171/200). This award instituted by the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) and the Indian Association for Dental Research (IADR), Chennai, is given to the dental undergraduate student(s) securing the top mark in various subjects of the Final Year BDS course. From among the toppers of various universities in India, Junia Devassy was selected for the top mark in Periodontics this year, representing the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

At the 36th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) held at Lucknow from 14th to 16th October 2014, postgraduate trainees at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry won accolades. Dr. Parvathy Sreekumar, second-year postgraduate trainee, won the best paper award (student category) for her paper titled “Research on – Attitude and awareness of parents towards the first dental visit and oral hygiene habits of their children”. Dr. Samith Mohanan Nair, first-year postgraduate trainee, won the second best poster award (student category) for his poster titled “Smart Materials.”

Dr. Thara Aravind and Dr. Deepa S., final-year postgraduate trainees, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, won the first and second prizes respectively for the scientific poster presentation in the 11th Annual Conference of the Kairali Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (KSOMP) held on September 14, 2014 . Around 30 PG students from dental colleges all over Kerala made scientific presentations at the conference. Dr. Thara presented a poster titled “Histopathologic evaluation of Oral Lichen Planus and Lichenoid Reaction – A comparative analysis” guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology. Dr. Deepa presented a poster titled “Dish Washing Soap as an alternative to Xylene-A comparative study” guided by Dr. Rakesh, Professor and Head, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology.
