Best Paper Awards at the 20th National PG Convention of IACDE & IES

Dr. Geni Jacob, Dr. Divya T. C., Dr. Samyukta Dinesh and Dr. Sita Manasvi, Postgraduate Students at the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, secured BEST PAPER awards at the 20th National PG Convention of IACDE & IES held at Chandigarh from 7 – 10 March 2019. Dr. Divya T. C. also secured award in the Best of Best papers category at the convention.

Students Win Prizes at SPIK (Society for Periodontists and Implantologists of Kerala) Mid Term Conference  

Dr. Meghna, 2nd year PG student in Periodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, received 1st prize for E-poster presentation on Vestibuloplasty : An Appraisal of three different techniques in the SPIK (Society for Periodontists and Implantologists of Kerala) Mid Term Conference held in Kochi during February 23 - 24, 2019. Dr. Sherry Terby, 1st year PG student in Periodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry received 1st prize for journal club presentation during the same conference.

Student Wins the State level Zonal Round of "Speak for India Kerala Edition 2018" Debate

Shankar S. Menon, student of III year BDS has won the State level Zonal Round of "Speak for India Kerala Edition 2018" debate held for College Students at SCMS College, Kalamassery on 15th January 2018. Shankar will now join the 12 students who have been selected from different zones in Kerala to compete in the semi-final round to be held soon.

Best Poster Award at the National IAOMR (Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology) Conference

Dr. Rhea Susan Varghese, Post Graduate Student (first year MDS), Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, got best poster award for her presentation on 'Artificial Intelligence Dentistry' in the National IAOMR (Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology) Conference held in Udaipur during November 25-27, 2018.

Paper Presentations at IDA Kerala State Students Conference 2018

Final year BDS students from Amrita School of Dentistry - Rohan Vaidya, Kanika Khubchandani, Shanmugapriya Ganesan and Anju Treesa John presented papers of original research work at the IDA Kerala State Students Conference 2018 held at Trivandrum on November 24, 2018. Kanika Khubchandani (Final year BDS Part 1) received the best paper award for the study on “Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Biomedical Waste Management among clinical dental students". All other papers were well appreciated by the jury. The students were guided by Dr. Sravan Kumar, Dr. R. Venkitachalam, Dr. Joe Joseph and Dr. Vijay Kumar - faculty members, Public Health Dentistry.

Poster Presentation Winners at Infection Control Week 2018

In connection with the Infection Control Week 2018, a poster competition was organized on October 15, 2018 among the schools in the Health Sciences Campus, Kochi. Students of the 2016 and 2017 batch of MDS from the Department of Periodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, bagged the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively in the poster competition. The theme for the poster presentation was "Protect Patients Everywhere."

Athira C.M., Intern, 2013 batch BDS, bagged 1st place in Intercollegiate Poster Competition conducted by Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences & Research, Kollam as a part of World No Tobacco Day 2018. The poster was judged by State Tobacco Control Cell. Prize includes Certificate & Cash Prize of Rs 3000.

In the recently concluded Indian Prosthodontic Society Kerala State Conference held in Thrissur on April 29, 2018, postgraduates of the Department of Prosthodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry {(Dr. Kasthuri (2016 batch), Dr.Ashna (2015 batch) and Dr. Arun Ravi (2016 batch)} received the best scientific poster presentation award on the topic “Jaw in a day – emerging option in maxillofacial reconstruction”.

Dr. Vinita Sanjeevan (Final year PG, Department of Public Health Dentistry) bagged the 2nd runner up position (among 24 contestants) for D +ve Royal Sastra Puraskaram competition organized by Royal Dental College, Palakkad on December 17, 2017. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Topic of study: “Intergenerational transfer of tobacco use behaviour from parent to child: A case control study”.

Dr. Mridula Mohan, final year PG trainee in the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, won the Best Paper Award in the Scientific Presentations (Original Research) category at the 26th National Conference of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) held at Bhubaneswar (Odisha), from November 17-19, 2017. Ms. Anjana Santhosh, Intern, Amrita School of Dentistry has bagged the BEST POSTER AWARD at the "E'COPS - a state level symposium on Medical Emergencies in Dental Clinics, hosted by the Cochin Periodontists Society on May 28, 2017 at Kochi.

Around 100 dental undergrduate and postgraduate students presented posters at the symposium. Anjana presented a poster on "Medico-legal issues in Dentistry" which was selected as the Best Poster in the undergraduate student category.

At the 13th National Post Graduate Convention of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (Pedo Pearls '16) at Hyderabad which was held during February 25-27, 2016, the first-year postgraduates in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Dr. Aravind Mohanan, Dr. Ajmal Najeeb and Dr. Baren Abraham, won second price in the short film competition. Their short film was titled “Ambiance and Attire – Modify and Prevail." The second-year postgraduates, Dr. Samith M. Pillai, Dr. Tinu George and Dr. Leena Menon, presented a poster titled “Bioesthetics – A New Horizon.”

At the 3rd National Conference of the Forum of Ethics Review Committees in India held at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Postgraduate Medical Sciences, Lucknow, during December 10 - 11, 2015, the original research by Dr. R. Venkitachalam, second-year postgraduate resident in Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, was awarded best scientific paper award. R., and Dr. Nithin Mathew, final-year postgraduate residents in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry won the best paper award for presenting a scientific paper at the eighth ISPRP (Indian Society of Prosthodontics, Restorative and Periodontics ) Conference held at Mahe (MINDS) during August 07 - 09, 2015. The paper was titled "Seal to heal : predictable surgical method of treating external root resorption-a case report."

Dr. Litu Mary Thampy, final-year postgraduate resident, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, won the FIRST PRIZE (Best Paper) in the Scientific Paper Presentation Category at the National PG Convention of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) held at Vadodara on the 11th and 12th of July 2015. Her paper titled: "Quantitative analysis of AgNOR proteins in brush biopsies of oral premalignant and malignant lesions", was a study done as part of the short-term research for postgraduate residents and was guided by Dr. Mahija Janardhanan, Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology at Amrita School of Dentistry.

Dr. Devika R. Krishnan, second-year postgraduate resident in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, received the best paper award at the 16th Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Indian Endodontic Society (IACDE and IES) National Convention held at I.T.S Centre for Dental Sciences and Research, Muradnagar, Ghaziabad during June 04 - 06, 2015.

27th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) & International Association for Dental Research (IADH) - India Division

October 31- November 2, 2014

Dr. Tharangini Madhusudanan, third-year postgraduate trainee, Prosthodontics, won the best scientific paper award at 27th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) & International Association for Dental Research (IADH) - India Division held at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, from October 31st to November 2nd 2014. Ms. Junia Devassy, Intern, received the prestigious “ISDR - T.V. Ramachandra Rao Memorial Award” for obtaining highest mark in Periodontics (171/200). This award instituted by the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) and the Indian Association for Dental Research (IADR), Chennai, is given to the dental undergraduate student(s) securing the top mark in various subjects of the Final Year BDS course. From among the toppers of various universities in India, Junia Devassy was selected for the top mark in Periodontics this year, representing the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Dr. Rakesh S. presented a paper on ‘Oral tuberculosis presenting as a white patch in a HIV-seropositive male patient- An unusual clinical scenario’ during the conference and was highly commended for it. Dr. Rakesh S. made a scientific presentation at the annual KSOMP conference 2017.

Amrita Faculty Member Gets Research Scholar Fellowship at National Institute of Health (NIH) USA

July 2017 - June 2018

Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram, Professor, Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry is awarded the Research Scholar Fellowship for Public Health Informatics at National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institute of Health (NIH) USA for one year starting from July 2017 to June 2018. It is for the first time they have awarded this prestigious postdoctoral fellowship for a non-USA applicant.

The fellowship training include health services research, surveillance, disease prevention, and health promotion with an emphasis on incorporating “Big Data” or data analytics concepts and skills, such as text mining, named entity recognition, image analysis or health records analysis, and clinical research informatics. Topics in clinical informatics could include capture, processing, and analysis of clinical data for patient care and research and the development of health informatics resources.

Best Paper Award in the 37th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry Conference (ISPPD)

Dr. Arun M. Xavier, Reader in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry won the best paper award in the 37th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry conference (ISPPD) held at Raipur during October 08 -10, 2015. The paper was titled, 'Preventive dentistry through a community based programme - A need of the hour'. This is the fourth consecutive year in a series Dr. Arun is winning the title for the 'best paper presentation' in a national conference. He was previously awarded at the national conferences held at Mangalore, Jaipur and Lucknow in the years 2012, 2013, 2014. He was recently announced a classified winner (2nd prize) for the Bright Smiles Bright Futures award at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Glasgow, Scotland (July 1 - 4, 2015).

  • Prof. Dr. Balagopal Varma, Principal and Head, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry gave an oral presentation on the ‘Importance of comprehensive dental treatment & health education in Down Syndrome’ at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) held at Glasgow, Scotland, from July 1st  to 4th 2015.

His session was chaired by Prof. (Dr) Terry Gregg (UK) and Prof. (Dr) Roger Hall (Australia), authorities in Orofacial Medicine.
 

  • Dr. Arun Mamachan Xavier, Reader, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry was shortlisted from a large number of entries in the world to the last 4 finalists to compete for the ‘Bright Smiles Bright Futures Award’ in recognition of an innovative community oral health education program that motivates children and improves oral health habits at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) held at Glasgow, Scotland, from July 1st  to 4th 2015. He was announced as the Classified Winner (Second Prize) and won a certificate of Excellence, a cheque of 500 US dollars and a flower bouquet.  His paper was titled, ‘My Mama Cares for Me – A Proactive Dental Home Initiative’ co-authored by Dr. Radhamani K. (Professor & Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences) and Dr. Parvathy Sreekumar (PG Resident, Pediatric Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry). Dr. Arun Mamachan Xavier also gave a poster presentation on the topic, ‘Effect of carbonated beverages on aesthetic restorative materials – an in-vitro surface microhardness study’ at the congress.
