Bio

Dr.Sivasankar Ganesan is serving as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore campus. He has twelve years of teaching experience, specializing in embedded systems, robotics, and artificial intelligence. He has three years of electronics industry experience across India and China. His research focuses on robot path planning for dynamic environments, swarm intelligence, and reinforcement learning-based robot control. He obtained a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, in 2006, and an M.E. in Embedded and Real-Time Systems from Anna University, Coimbatore, in 2011. He earned a Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai, in 2023, with his research focusing on the development of sampling-based path planning algorithms for autonomous mobile robot navigation.

He received his Summer Faculty Research Fellowship from IIT Delhi in 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Sunil Jha, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. During this fellowship, he was involved in a DST-sponsored research project that aimed to develop a customized controller for a five-axis CNC machine. He received the highly prestigious Indian National Science Academy Visiting Scientist Fellowship in 2019 at the IIT Madras Robotics Lab under the guidance of Dr. Asokan Thondiyath, Professor in the Department of Engineering Design. During the fellowship, he developed an autonomous mobile manipulator navigation scheme for an industrial warehouse application using the Robot Operating System. He serves as a reviewer for journals such as Expert Systems with Applications, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, International Journal of Intelligent Systems, and Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments.

Currently, he is actively engaged in implementing a DST project titled ‘Development of Deep Reinforcement Learning-based Socially Aware Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation Scheme for Hospital Environment’ in collaboration with IIT Madras.
