Abstract : This paper represents a comprehensive comparative study of the surface flat and surface radial orientation of rotor structural schemes on the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) used for high-speed aerospace applications. The comparative study has been conducted by maintaining the same winding pattern and stator structural unit identical for both cases to achieve high power density in a 5kW Permanent Magnet Starter Generator Machine. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) analysis has been performed based on the Finite Element Method using Ansys Motor-CAD to observe the results of the rotor's structural performance. This work represents and investigates the performance of both orientations in a PMSG operating at two extreme speeds 30,000 rpm under motoring mode and 45,000 rpm under generator mode suitable to propel more electric aircraft.
