Customer First: Lessons from Real Business Battles

We were honoured to host Dr. Nithin Raj, Former CEO of Flow Link Systems (A Voith Company), for an engaging Colloquium at the Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore. His talk on “Customer First: Lessons from Real Business Battles” offered powerful insights on leadership, discipline, and India’s rising global influence.

Dr. Raj highlighted India’s growing strategic position—driven by its demographic strength and rich knowledge, social, and cultural capital. He noted that nearly 35% of future global corporate leaders could be of Indian origin, reflecting the nation’s evolving global footprint.

A key message was the call for personal responsibility and discipline. He reminded students that circumstances don’t define us—we shape them. He also explored why India hasn’t built global brands at scale, pointing to consumer behaviour and the need for stronger trust in Indian products.

Reframing Customer First, Dr. Raj emphasized the importance of the internal customer, noting that organizations grow inside-out through alignment, collaboration, and trust. His views on measurable processes, objectivity, and system-driven performance added further depth to the discussion.

Drawing from Swiss discipline, Japanese manufacturing principles, and American quality systems, he shared leadership lessons rooted in resilience, excellence, and consistency.
