Amrita Hospital Faridabad Organizes CME & Toric IOL Workshop Addressing Clinical Challenges in Ophthalmic Practices

The Department of Ophthalmology of Amrita Hospital Faridabad successfully organized a CME entitled ‘Clinical Challenges in Ophthalmic Practice’ which continued with a workshop for Toric IOL surgery. The event comprised eminent ophthalmologists, postgraduate students, and others specializing in the field from Faridabad and its adjoining areas.

During the CME program, participants discussed a wide range of difficult cases in eye diseases and new approaches in their treatment.

Among the most distinguished speakers was Dr. Santosh Honavar, who conducted an insightful presentation regarding eyelid and conjunctival tumors, and the key characteristics that may help differentiate benign conditions from those that are potentially fatal. Atypical viral keratitis was discussed in detail by Dr. Ritu Arora, who highlighted the diagnostic problems associated with this condition as well as its management strategies.

Radiological considerations in ophthalmology were presented by Dr. Satya Karna, while different clinical symptoms and signs of keratoconus were discussed by Dr. Hitendra Ahooja. Methods of reducing adverse effects of treating glaucoma and ocular surface diseases associated with this condition were outlined by Dr. Shibal Bhartiya, and an innovative technique of lenticular massage in Morgagnian cataracts and managing hard cataract cases during phacoemulsification surgery was demonstrated by Dr. Harbansh Lal.

In regards to retinal care and complex cases, Dr. Avanindra Gupta gave an immersive presentation about novel methods for solving retinal problems. Speaking of Amrita Hospital, Dr. Meenakshi Dhar illustrated some cataract surgeries that were complicated due to non-dilating pupils and premium intraocular lens implantation through some videos.

As for other topics, Dr. Chitralekha De shared experience in dealing with retinal diseases in the presence of serious systemic diseases in a multidisciplinary hospital environment. Furthermore, Dr. Rashmi Mittal talked about first-ever Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK). The following presentations include some information related to superior oblique palsy provided by Dr. Amrita Chaturvedi. As well as that, Dr. Urmila presented a complicated pediatric case of chronic total limbal stem cell deficiency with fibrosis and symblepharon.

Following these academic sessions, the audience could actively participate in Toric IOL Workshop, in which everyone had an opportunity to learn more about the planning and alignment of the lenses. This event gave ophthalmologists a chance to get acquainted with modern cataract surgery procedures.

Over 50 active ophthalmologists, who were members of the Faridabad Ophthalmic Society and postgraduate students from various medical colleges in the area, attended the conference. The amalgamation of lectures, clinical discussions, and learning by doing helped make the conference a success, and the necessity of continuing education in ophthalmology was further emphasized through this effort.
