Abstract : Superhydrophobic surfaces, which show lotus effect, have a wide range of application in different fields due to their self-cleaning and corrosion resistance property. Hence, it is very important to ensure the stability of these kinds of surfaces for a better shelf life. Better the stability; high end will be the application. Stability can be explained in terms of mechanical and chemical properties. This chapter will be focusing on the chemical stability of superhydrophobic surfaces together with special focus on the factors affecting the stability of these surfaces such as temperature, humidity, pH, solvents, and UV radiations with a special emphasis on the methods to impart chemical stability of superhydrophobic surfaces. This chapter will also throw light on the effect of the various factors in determining the contact angle, which in turn regulate the superhydrophobicity of the surface. A brief discussion of all the conventional as well as novel methods of stability testing will also be included.
