Abstract : This paper presents the design and development of an autonomous robotic vehicle controlled by gestures equipped with a vision-based object detection and retrieval system. The proposed model integrates a Pi as the central processing unit, coordinates motor control through an L298N driver module, and uses a USB camera for real-time image acquisition and path recognition. A one-degree-of-freedom (1-DOF) gripper is mounted on the front end to perform object pickup operations. Each of the five color-coded boxes is preassigned to a unique hand gesture (1–6), allowing the robot to interpret user intent, locate the corresponding box, and navigate autonomously towards it. Once the object is collected, the robot returns to its original position using visual feedback and motion control. The entire system is powered by a Li-Po battery, ensuring efficient and portable operation. The proposed approach demonstrates an effective combination of computer vision, embedded control, and human–robot interaction, offering a cost-effective and adaptable solution for smart automation and assistive robotics.
