Abstract : A comparison between a traditional square-shaped antenna array and a 1x4 linear leaf-shaped antenna array intended for satellite communication applications is presented in this paper. With CST Microwave Studio, both arrays are designed and simulated at the 7.5 GHz X-band frequency. Important performance parameters are assessed and contrasted, such as gain, radiation pattern, side lobe levels, bandwidth and return loss. Because of its tapered geometry, which also helps to lessen mutual coupling between elements the leaf-shaped array exhibits better impedance matching and a wider bandwidth. In addition, when compared to the square-shaped array the leaf-shaped design achieves better radiation efficiency and higher peak gain. Based on radiation pattern analysis the leaf-shaped arrays narrower beamwidth and suppressed side lobes make it appropriate for targeted satellite communication links. The study demonstrates how the leaf-shaped antenna array improves overall antenna performance and offers guidance for designing small effective antenna arrays for satellite systems.
