Abstract : Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are of aluminosilicate clay that have a unique tubular hollow structure. It differs in its composition based on its internal and external surfaces. In recent decades, prominent research has been focusing on employing HNTs as a potential nanocarrier for a variety of applications, including the biomedical, environmental, food packaging, and quality monitoring industries, due to their selective modification, loading capability, and low-cost and biocompatible properties. The recent advancements and the state-of-the-art HNTs used for biomedical, environmental, and food packaging and quality monitoring applications have been emphasized in this chapter. HNTs used as nanofillers in biomedical applications (HNT@CuS@PDA-Lys, HNT-MgO/β-TCP, MET/HNT/PLA, PU/CA-HNTs/sericin, and Curcumin/HNTs), environmental applications (Ag-BN/HNT-TiO2 nanofibers, HNT-esterase, Pd@Ni/N-HNT, HNTs\PDA\PF, and LSO@f-HNT), food packaging and quality monitoring applications (PCL/Zein nanofibers/Aster yomena-HNTs, Zein/HNTs, SPI/BSG/HNT/Propolis, and Cit-HNTs-Myr) have been highlighted toward the future perspectives of HNTs. The significant properties ensuring the materials concerning the biomedical applications (drug loading and release efficacy, cell viability, and antibacterial activity), environmental applications (photocatalytic activity, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and degradation efficiency), food packaging and quality monitoring applications (mechanical characteristics, barrier properties, thermal analysis, antibacterial activity, antioxidant activity, and in vitro analysis with perishable food products) have been discussed. In addition, looking for a way forward, HNT composites serve as major role players in the emerging trends for the development of biomedical, environmental, food packaging, and quality monitoring applications.
