Abstract : A time to digital converter (TDC) is a device that converts time intervals to digital representations. TDC with temperature measurement capability measures temperature along with time. This paper focuses on the recent advancements in the integration of temperature sensors using the All-Digital Pulse-Shrinking Time-to-Digital Converter (ADC- TDC) approach. In all digital CMOS TDC with temperature measurement the conventional time adder is replaced by PG to add temperature measurement capability and reduce circuit complexity. The ADC- TDC offers improved dynamic range, high precision, low power consumption, and compatibility with digital systems. The paper provides an in-depth overview of the architecture, operation, and challenges associated with ADCTDCs, with a specific emphasis on enhancing dynamic range. Furthermore, area-efficient pulse- shrinking techniques for smart temperature sensing applications are reviewed, including design considerations, implementation strategies, and performance enhancements achieved through these techniques. The paper also analyses the applications of ADC- TDCs with temperature sensors in the medical field.
