Abstract : This work proposes three adaptive algorithms for indoor nodes performing simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT). The adaptive algorithms use a charge budget approach to regulate the transmitted power in adaptive power (AP), the transceiver airtime in adaptive bitrate (AB), or both in adaptive power and bitrate (APB) algorithms to ensure the sustained operation of individual nodes. The ability of the sensor node to sustain the link while deriving energy from the available ambient optical source is analyzed for different optical illumination and data rate conditions. For a normalized optical link independent of geometry, the APB algorithm maintained a link availability of 61.9%, whereas the AB algorithm maintained 43.33% and the AP algorithm maintained 37.43%. These availability values are to be compared to a system with no optimization scheme that has a 21.19% availability. The results demonstrate that the APB algorithm provides superior energy neutrality while sustaining link availability across a broader range of transmitted powers and available data rates.
