Abstract : A hybrid substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity is formed by combining four rectangular cavities with a cylindrical cavity. Radiation from the cavity is achieved by providing four slots arranged radially outwards from the center of the cylindrical region. Coaxial ports are positioned inside the four rectangular cavities. Manipulating the input feeds in terms of amplitude and phase enables the slots to generate multiple beams along different azimuth angles with different polarization states. The antenna is capable of generating linear, circular, and azimuthal polarization states. The antenna operates at 3.5 GHz with a 20 MHz narrow bandwidth. When excited, individual elements of the antenna array operate with a gain 5.2 dB and provide isolation in excess of 12 dB between the adjacent ports.
