The Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore has been adjudged as the best student branch in India for six consecutive years from 2010 onwards. This is a significant achievement, considering the fact that there are more than 600 colleges and universities in India, with CSI student chapters including reputed institutions like NITs at Surathkal, Kozhikode,  Jamshedpur; Anna University; VIT University; SRM University etc.  No other university or institution in India can boast of this DOUBLE HATRICK honor.

Best CSI Student Branch Award for 2017 – 2018

TechNext India 2018 Awards for AMRITA School of Engineering, Coimbatore

On 11 February, 2018 at IIT Bombay, the TechNext India 2018 awards for AMRITA School of Engineering (ASE), Coimbatore were conferred by Computer Society of India (CSI) Mumbai chapter and IIT Bombay through its Free & Open Source Software in Education (FOSSEE) inter-disciplinary initiative under MHRD National Mission on Education using ICT. Prof. Prashant R.Nair, Vice-Chairman, CSE dept , ASE Coimbatore received the awards on behalf of AMRITA from Dr. Deepak B. Phatak, Padma Shri awardee and IIT Bombay (IITB) CSE Professor. The awards included:

  1. Best Institute of the year – Innovative pedagogical approaches and tools for ASE, Coimbatore for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) departmental curricular initiatives such as early adoption of Computational Thinking & Problem Solving for engineering freshmen, competitive programming and organizing of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)
  2. Best faculty of the year – Authoring Books on Contemporary Subjects for Dr. K.V. Shriram, Assistant Professor, CSE dept for prolific book publishing. Dr. K.V. Shriram has produced 30 books in the last 5 years with reputed publishers such as Alpha Science (UK), Narosa, and S Chand.
  3. Best faculty of the year – Evangelizing and Contributing to Spread of knowledge across several institutions for Prof. Prashant R.Nair for significant outreach through leadership positions in professional bodies including CSI National Student Coordinator (NSC) and active role in organizing premier student events such as ACM ICPC and Anokha techfest at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. Dr. T.V. Prabhakar, CSE Professor from IIT Kanpur was another awardee in this category.

TechNext India 2018 inaugurated by Dr. Devang Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay. The conference had Dr. Kannan Moudgalya, Professor, IITB and lead investigator for the national mission-mode Spoken Tutorials project as organizing chair and Dr. S.S. Mantha, Former Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as award jury member

Best CSI Student Branch Award for 2015 – 2016

Dr. Anirban Basu, President (2016-2017) of Computer Society of India presenting best CSI student branch award for 2015-2016 to Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore at 26th CSI National Convention at Coimbatore. Mr. Sanjay Kirushnan of 2013-2017 batch B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering was ranked in the top 50 in the 4th Computer Society of India (CSI) Discover Thinking National Programming Contest held on 11th January, 2017. He secured a credible 23rd place in the online contest wherein around 12,000 students participated from all over India including premier institutions such as IITs, BITS, NITs, Manipal, Nirma etc. The testing partner for the programming contest was Reliscore.

Best CSI Student Branch Award for 2014 – 2015

The Computer Society of India (CSI) Student Branch of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Coimbatore, has been adjudged as best CSI Student Branch in India for the fifth consecutive year. This is a significant achievement, considering the fact that there are more than 600 colleges and universities in India with CSI student Chapters, including reputed institutions such as NITs at Surathkal, Kozhikode, Jamshedpur, Anna University, VIT and SRM. The student branch, which is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), was recognized for its successful conduct of several co-curricular activities and also for supporting the CSE department in organizing conferences, workshops and contests, such as International Conference on Interdisciplinary Advances in Advanced Computing (ICONIAAC) 2014 and National Workshop on Computer Vision, Image Processing and Data Analytics 2014. Eminent speakers who have addressed the various events organized by the student branch included Dr. Prabhakar Mateti, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Wright State University, USA; Dr. C.R. Muthukrishnan, Former Deputy Director, IIT Madras and President, Computer Society of India (CSI); Dr. Masahiro Fujita, Professor at University of Tokyo; Mr. Apurba Das, Solution Architect, Image Processing group, Tata Consultancy Services Innovation Labs, Bangalore and Dr. Krishnan Kutty, Associate Technical Fellow for the Systems Engineering team at KPIT Cummins.

Highlights of 2013-2014

In 2013-2014, the CSI student branch, which is  hosted by Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) , was  recognized for its successful conduct of several co-curricular  activities as also supporting the CSE department in organizing  conferences, workshops and contests. The CSI student chapter organized  workshops on game development, android, multimedia streaming and big  data analytics during the academic year, 2013-2014. It also organized contests in Code Wars based on SCRATCH by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and technoplan competitions for the benefit of the students of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. The student branch also supported the CSE department in organizing the 15th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Networking (ICDCN), which is one of the most prestigious distributed computing conferences worldwide.
