Practical
Identification of varieties of commercial flowers. Propagation methods: Seed propagation – Seed collection, germination tests and storage. Vegetative Propagation methods: Cuttings and Layerings. Nursery practices for commercial flower crops. Special practices for important commercial flower crops. Post-harvest handling, and value addition of commercial flower crops. Identification of ornamental plants; Identification of tools and implements used in landscape design. Propagation of trees, shrubs, potted plants and annuals, care and maintenance of plants, potting and repotting, Preparation of plans and laying out of gardens. Training and pruning of plants for special effects, lawn establishment and maintenance, layout of formal gardens, informal gardens, special type of gardens (Vertical garden, sunken garden, terrace garden, rock garden and water garden) and Use of computer software, Bonsai and Care and Maintenance of Bonsai, Terrarium and miniature garden. Visits to important gardens/ parks/ institute garden. Visit to commercial flower production unit/nursery.
