Syllabus

Unit 1

Sample Space and Events, Interpretations and Axioms of Probability, Addition rules, Conditional Probability, Multiplication and Total Probability rules, Independence, Bayes theorem. Random variables, Probability Distributions and Probability mass functions, Cumulative Distribution functions, mathematical expectation, variance . (20 Hrs)

Unit 2

Standard discrete distributions – Binomial, Poisson, Uniform, Geometric distributions, Negative binomial and Hypergeometric Distributions -Standard continuous distributions – Uniform, Exponential and Normal distributions, Correlation and Regression. (20 Hrs)

Unit 3

Tests of Hypotheses: General Procedure for Hypothesis Tests, Problems based on large sample tests and small sample tests – Z, t, F test and chi-square tests. Analysis of variance- One way classification, Two-way classification, Latin square design. (20 Hrs)
