The Department of Mathematics at the Amritapuri campus came into existence in 2002. It comprises a group of highly experienced and fully dedicated faculty who are passionate about Mathematics and its applications. Currently, the department consists of 16 dedicated faculty members, four of whom hold PhD degrees, while the others are pursuing their PhDs at our institution, as well as at NITs, IIST etc. The department takes pride in the success of its alumni, many of whom have secured admissions to prestigious institutes for their PhD studies, and a significant number have secured promising positions in their careers. The Amrita Centre for International Research (CIR) department collaborates with the mathematics department to provide training and assistance to students regarding placements. For their final year projects, students in the department are given opportunities to work at Amrita research centres as well as renowned institutions such as IITs, NITs, ISI etc.
The department also arranges workshops and seminars by inviting eminent and experienced faculty from prestigious national and international institutes for the benefit of students and teachers. Programs are well-appreciated by academicians and scholars everywhere. The Five-year Integrated M.Sc. (Mathematics/Physics) program started in 2006 with an intake of 40 students. This unique and intense program that runs in a collaboration with the Physics department has been designed to impart strong theoretical and experimental knowledge in both Mathematics and Physics. At the end of the 3rd year, students have the liberty to bifurcate or can opt for Physics or Mathematics stream in our program. The department sends students to attend short-term training programmes like MTTS as well as other seminars and workshops, etc.
Every year, we admit a group of highly enthusiastic students to our 2-Year PG program. These students are selected based on criteria like those of the Integrated M.Sc. Mathematics 2-year PG program.
