Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary research univerisity in India with its campuses spread over South India in the cities of Coimbatore (in the state of Tamil Nadu), Amritapuri (in the state of Kerala near the Mata Amritanandamayi Math at the bank of scenic backwaters), Kochi (in the state of Kerala), Bengaluru and Mysore (in the state of Karnataka).
Pro-Chancellor of the prestigious Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya greeted the gathering in his welcome address and expressed his heart-felt felicity on the auspicious occasion.
Dr. T. Rasamani, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Chief Guest to the ceremony delivered the convocation address. “I feel privileged to be present here as the chief guest of today’s function, in an institution founded and named after one of the greatest mothers of this mother earth,” he stated. Addressing the students on the sprawling campus greens, he extolled the soaring values in mission and the vision of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Distinguished Chief Guest to the ceremony, Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, President of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Vice Chairman of Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) delivered the benedictory address.
Students from the different campuses were awarded Gold and Silver medals for their unparallel academic excellence. “In a span of four years, Amrita has grown from 2000 to 11000+ students, who are spread across its five campuses with a strong and eminent faculty base of 1500+, perhaps more than the number in many other institutions. We set course on a novel endeavor to be recognized internationally as one of the world’s best universities”, remarked Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor of Amrita.
Dr. Namboothiripad, U. Krishnakumar, Director of School of Arts and Sciences at Kochi Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Dr. Prem Kumar Nair, Medical Director, School of Medicine at Kochi Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham etc. were among other noted speakers. They all wished the graduating students a bright future and expressed their sincere hopes that in this world driven by commerce, may they be able to make such things that will help their fellow beings in their struggle for survival.
The occasion witnessed moments of traditional gaiety and happiness as the rest of the day, the students bid tearful adieu to their beloved friends, teachers and alma-mater as they embarked on a newer journey in their lives.
