Bio

Dr Akshara Preethy Byju completed her Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from the University of Trento, Italy.
She earned her B.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from the University of Kerala in 2013. In 2015, she received her M.Sc. degree in Geo-informatics through a collaborative program between the University of Twente and the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing.
Dr. Byju worked as an Image Analyst with the Urban Expansion Observatory (UXO), Mumbai, for the New York University Stern Urbanization Project from 2015 to 2016. She also served as a GIS Consultant at Infrastructure Development Finance Company in 2015. From 2018 to 2019, she was a Visiting Researcher with the Remote Sensing Image Analysis (RSiM) Group at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany.
Her primary research interests include advanced image processing techniques and deep learning methodologies with applications in remote sensing and geospatial analysis. In recognition of her research excellence and contributions to the field, she has been honored with the prestigious ANRF PMECRG Award in 2025.
