Dr. Ravisankar M. received his PhD in 1989 from the Laser Division, Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology for ‘Laser Attenuation Studies in Sea Water’. In 1986 he joined as Technical Assistant Gr.I at the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). Involved in the Design and fabrication of systems for research and in charge of the Sophisticated Instrumentation Lab of Physics Department of CUSAT. In addition, he was involved in various Industrial Consultancy activities. He served as the resource person for various workshops in lasers/ optoelectronics, Numerical computations using MATLAB etc. He is a Life member of the Instrument Society of India.
Later in 1992, he joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and apart from teaching was involved in department research activities as PI and Co-PI of some of the research projects. The research outputs were published in various journals and conferences. From 2009 – 2012 Dr. Ravisankar served as Head of the Department of Marine Geology & Geophysics of CUSAT. During that period, he served as a member of the Board of Studies in Marine Geology & Geophysics, member of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and member of the Academic Council of Cochin University of Science and Technology. He was also a member of the Board of Studies in Earth Sciences at Kerala University of Ocean Studies (KUFOS). After 26 years of teaching, at the postgraduate level, he retired from Cochin University of Science and Technology as Associate Professor in the year 2018. His areas of interest are electronics including optoelectronics, marine instrumentation, embedded systems, and signal processing.
In 2019, he joined at Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (WNA) of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri as a Professor. Associated with the Geophone group of the Landslide Early Warning Project of WNA. In 2019 he took charge of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus as Professor and Chairperson.
Dr. Ravisankar was subsequently transferred to Amrita School for Sustainable Futures (ASF) in 2023 as Professor and Academic Head of the School.
On April 21, 2023 Dr. Ravisankar was designated as the Principal of Amrita School for Sustainable Futures (ASF), Amritapuri Campus.
