Dr. Senthilkumar Baskar

Assistant Professor, Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Kochi

Bio

Dr. Senthilkumar Baskar is an Assistant professor in Amrita School of Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi. Before joining the school, he was worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the topic of “High voltage cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries” at Jawaharlal Nehru Advanced Scientific Research Centre, Bengaluru. He received his Ph.D. degree from Bharathiar University (India) in 2014 under the guidance of Dr. R. Kalai Selvan. During his thesis work, he developed various novel electrode materials and hybrid supercapacitor devices. After a short stay in the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) as an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF), he pursued postdoctoral research in Prof. Youngsik Kim’s research group in the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science & Technology (UNIST), Ulsan, South Korea. As a part of this work, he demonstrated rechargeability of hybrid Na-air batteries with the use of NASICON membranes. After that, He worked as National Postdoctoral Fellow (N-PDF) in Prof. PrabeerBarpanda’s Group at Materials Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc). Development of cost-effective bifunctional catalysts was an outcome of the N-PDF work. Later, he moved to University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France for his postdoctoral research work where he developed electrochemical cells for Operando-XRD investigations. His significant contributions to nanomaterials and energy storage and conversion technology research has been known well, as his research works have been published in a number of leading journals and conferences in the field. Dr. Senthilkumar has also presented his findings at national and international conferences, just name a few: 232nd and 233rd Electrochemical Society Meetings (ECS 2017 & 2018), USA, International conference on Materials for Advanced Technologies, Singapore (ICMAT,2016) and 6th Asian Conference on Electrochemical Power Sources (ACEPS-6, 2012). He holds two Korean patents of repute in a short span of time. He has been invited speaker at several national and international conferences. He is also an Associate editor in Nanotechnology for Energy Applications, Guest editor in Nanomaterials (Frontiers) and active reviewer for several international journals on topics related to energy storage materials. His name is featuring in the top 2% scientists in the energy area worldwide which is released by the researchers from Stanford University, USA (2021 & 2023). His current research efforts are focused on layered oxides and polyanion based positive electrode materials for Post-Lithium-ion batteries such as Zinc-ion, sodium-ion batteries. Dr. Senthilkumar has received several recognitions and research grants which includes the NPDF (2016), featuring in the top 2% scientists (2021 & 2023), Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award (2024), ITS (2017) from DST-SERB, ECS travel grant, Start-up research grant (as PI) from DSTSERB (2023) and India-Korea Joint Research grant (as Co-PI) from Department of Science & Technology (2024). He has published over 57 research articles, 15 conference proceedings, 6 book chapters and 4 provisional or full patents. He is a member of the Electrochemical Society (ECS), USA
