Bio

Dr. Suresh Nayar currently serves as Adjunct Faculty, Department of Prosthodontics & Implantology, Amrita School of Dentistry.

Qualification: BDS, MDS, MFDSRCS(Eng), MRDRCSE(Edin), MRDRCPS(Glasg), MRDRCS(Eng), FDS (Rest Dent), RCS(Eng), MPhil (Sheffield)

Dr. Nayar is the Director of Clinics & Maxillofacial Prosthodontist at the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM), and an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada since 2013. He is also the Site Program Chief at the Misericordia Community Hospital, Edmonton, Canada. He was a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the UK, since 2009.

After graduate and post-graduate (Prosthodontics) training in India, Dr Nayar embarked on further specialist clinical training in the United Kingdom where he was awarded Specialty Membership from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRDRCSE) and intercollegiate Specialty Memberships from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MRDRCPS) and Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRDRCS). He subsequently was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS (Rest Dent)RCS). During his specialist clinical training, he also embarked on a Research Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree that was awarded in 2012.

He founded the Head and Neck Cancer Support Society in 2018, the first of its kind in Canada. He was awarded the Covenant Health Mission Award in 2016 & 2019 in the Social Justice category and for the Covenant Health Recognition Award in 2021.

He is the President Elect of the British Society of Prosthodontics (BSSPD). He chairs the Website and Social Media Committee on the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics Board (since 2019). He is the Hon. Web Editor of the European Prosthodontic Association (since 2008). He served as the Hon. Secretary of the British Society of Prosthodontics from 2009-12 and currently serves as the International Representative. He was an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and General Dental Council of UK, from 2007 – 2013. He was also the Regional Advisor in Restorative Dentistry for Royal College of Surgeons of England from 2010 to 2013.

His current research interest includes patient reported outcome measures and improving quality of life in head and neck cancer patients; use of digital technologies and additive manufacturing in advanced jaw reconstruction and maxillofacial prosthodontics; development of a virtual reality planning and educational software; use of AI in diagnosis of adverse tissue reaction around osseointegrated implants, among others. He is the director the advanced jaw reconstruction workshop in Edmonton, Canada. He chairs the “Oral and Dental Care clinical guideline review team” for the Provincial Head and Neck Tumour Team of Alberta, Canada.

His teaching commitments include teaching to maxillofacial prosthodontic and head & neck fellows; medical and dental residents and students, dental hygiene students and visiting scientists and clinicians. He supervises the MSc program in Surgical Design and Simulation and the Fellowship in maxillofacial prosthodontics.
