Professor C. G. Vijayakumar is an eminent scholar of Pāṇinian grammar (Vyākaraṇa) and Vedic studies, widely recognised for his contributions to Sanskrit higher education, academic administration, and the promotion of the traditional śāstric disciplines. He has consistently worked towards integrating the classical Sanskrit intellectual tradition with contemporary academic and institutional frameworks.
He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Pāṇini Sanskrit and Vedic University, Ujjain (2021–2025), providing academic leadership to one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to Sanskrit and Vedic studies. Prior to this appointment, he was associated with Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU), Ramtek, where he held several distinguished positions, including Registrar (In-Charge), Dean of the Faculty of Vedavidyā, Head of the Department of Vyākaraṇa, Chairman of the Board of Studies, and Director of various academic and developmental initiatives.
A scholar deeply rooted in the Pāṇinian grammatical tradition, Prof. Vijayakumar’s research and teaching encompass Vyākaraṇa, Vedic studies, Sanskrit pedagogy, and traditional śāstric learning. Over a teaching career spanning more than two decades, he has supervised numerous M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, thereby contributing significantly to the advancement of Sanskrit grammatical studies.
Beyond his academic scholarship, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening Sanskrit education through institutional development, curriculum design, international collaborations, and the expansion of Sanskrit outreach programmes. His administrative vision has substantially enhanced the academic profile and reach of Sanskrit universities in India.
