3392 students from all five campuses of Amrita viz. Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysore were conferred degrees at the seventh annual convocation of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Nearly 200 rank holders were felicitated with medals and rank certificates.

Six candidates received doctoral degrees.

Dr. Deshpande, chairman and co-founder of Sycamore Networks, USA delivered the convocation address. He congratulated the outgoing students and presented gold and silver medals to the winners.

“You are the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs,” he told them. “You individually and as a whole, have the opportunity to change the world. If you can do a small part of what Chancellor Amma (Mata Amritanadamayi) has done, you will be able to transform this country and the world.” Read Complete Address »

In his benedictory address, Swami Amritaswarupanada Puri, President of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, enlightened students on various aspects of life, and spoke of the need to manage one’s ego, learn how to practice intelligent detachment and ways to attain higher realms of consciousness of grace.

“Be humble,” he told the graduands. “Be open.”

For the second consecutive year, a Noble Laureate spoke at the Amrita convocation. Dr. Martin Chalfie, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008, delivered a special address to the assembled gathering. Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya, Pro-Chancellor; Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor; Dr. S. Krishnamorthy, Registrar; Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, deans, directors and principals of schools and campuses of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham also spoke. The event concluded with students taking an oath to uphold the ideals of the institution.

“I am very happy and feel honored to have received this medal,” stated Aravind C. Nair, an MBA rank holder and also a winner of the Jyotsna Ravishankar Memorial Award.

“It feels very exciting to be part of the convocation event,” stated Maimol, who graduated with an MSc degree from the Health Sciences campus in Kochi.
