New Book on PH Co-Edited by Amrita Faculty

In medicine, PH (Pulmonary Hypertension) is an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, vein or capillaries, leading to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, and even heart failure. Dr. Krishna Kumar, from the Amrita School of Medicine, has co-edited a new book on PH, recently published by Elsevier, the world’s largest publisher of medical and scientific literature.
 
Pulmonary Hypertension “The book, a multi-author effort, brings together the knowledge base from diverse sources,” stated Dr. Krishna Kumar. “For me, this was an opportunity to work with some of the best practitioners in the field.” Dr. Sheila Haworth, FRCP, FRCPath, FRCPCH, FACC is the co-editor of the book. She is HoD of Cardio Respiratory Sciences at the Institute for Child Health, University College in London.
 
The book has contributions from clinicians and scientists from London and Australia as well as leading Indian institutions such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai and the Institute of Genomic and Integrative Biology at New Delhi.
 
Dr. Krishnakumar himself authored two of the chapters in the book, together with his colleague at Amrita, Dr. Rema Devi K.S. The book, published as part of the Elsevier Clinical Advisory Board (ECAB) India Clinical Update series in Cardiology, has a CME credit of 7 hours. It was commissioned by the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI), an international research body.
 
“We are fortunate to have experts like Dr. Krishnakumar, here at Amrita, who are recognized globally as among the best in their fields,” stated Ms. Swapna Menon, the international coordinator for PVRI. Swapna is part of the Center for Digital Health at Amrita. Dr. Krishnakumar is HoD of Pediatric Cardiology at Amrita, now known as a leading place in South Asia for treatment of children with congenital heart defects.
