Saarang and Drishya at Health Sciences Campus

The first week of November at the Health Sciences campus saw the culmination of two colorful student art festivals. Saarang, celebrated by student nurses came to an end on November 5 and Drishya, of the allied health sciences students concluded on November 6.

The valedictory function of Saarang was attended by Shri. Jayaraj Warrier, Actor and Caricature Artist and Sri. George Joseph K., renowned Malayalam writer.

The college magazine, Sudhamritam, was released at the function.

Prof. K. T. Moly, Principal, Amrita College of Nursing, noted that arts help create a positive learning atmosphere, that is conducive for the success of both the teacher and the student.

“Fortunately in all nursing colleges, there are opportunities for students to express their talents under the umbrella of Student Nurses Association in India. Besides, nursing is an art, in itself,” she asserted.

Ms. Lakshmi Ramesh, final-year student of BSc (Nursing) and Mr. Akhil Kumar, second-year student of MSc (Nursing) received the Kalathilakam and Kalapratibha titles respectively, as the best female and male performers.

They and the other students had a galaxy of events to choose from, in order to display their skills. Group song, mime, essay writing, poem composition and recitation, short-story writing, pencil drawing, cartoon drawing, mehndi designing, umbrella painting, paper collage, face painting, dumb charades, monoacting, mimicry, elocution, solo song, group dance, synchronized dance, bharatanatyam, folk dance and thiruvathirakkali.

These offstage and onstage events of Saarang were organized during November 2–4, 2012.

“To bring out the multifaceted talents of the students, this time we also had the personality contest,” stated Ms. Shani Mathew, Arts Secretary, Amrita College of Nursing.

Meanwhile, Drishya, the arts festival of the allied health sciences students concluded on November 6, 2012. The festival saw participation from students of BSc and MSc programs at the Health Sciences campus.

Students of BSc (MRT), BSc (Optometry), BSc (RT), BASLP, MSc (Biochemistry), MSc (Microbiology), MSc (Anatomy), MSc (Physiology) and MHA enthusiastically participated in events such as theme dance, group dance, solo song, pot painting, glass painting, water coloring, flower decoration and clay modeling.

The trophy for the Overall Championship was bagged by Mr.Midhin Mohan, student of the 2011 MHA batch.

Singer Afsal attended the valedictory ceremony.

“Drishya was the combined effort of students and we really enjoyed the cultural feast. The event was a great opportunity for us to express our artistic talents,” stated Mr. Ashish of the 2011 MHA batch.
