Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched a short-term certificate course aimed at enhancing disaster resilience and social responsibility. The Amrita School for Sustainable Futures at Amritapuri Campus has introduced the ‘Certificate Course on Building Disaster Resilience and Social Responsibility through Experiential Learning,’ in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation and Development.
This offline course is designed to provide practical learning experiences, focusing on disaster management, prevention, and resilience-building. Targeting disaster management team members, teachers, youth leaders, and students, the course follows the Train the Trainer model to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to address and mitigate the impact of disasters in their communities.
The four-day certificate course aims to provide comprehensive awareness on climate change, natural disasters, and their prevention. Participants will be trained in cutting-edge disaster prevention methods, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and equipment. Additionally, the course will cover disaster monitoring systems and first aid techniques, preparing participants for real-world emergency scenarios.
The course content is meticulously designed based on the Sustainable Development Index and disaster management guidelines set by the central and state governments. The first batch, consisting of 25 participants from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, has already commenced, with classes being led by experts from Amrita School for Sustainable Futures, Amrita Centre for Wireless Networks and Applications, and Amrita Hospital, Kochi.
Through this initiative, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham continues its commitment to fostering sustainable development and preparing individuals to respond effectively to disasters while promoting social responsibility in the face of climate challenges.
