Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was recognized as the best institution for its exceptional efforts in implementing green activities and sustainable waste management practices under the Waste-Free Navakerala Janakiya Campaign. The prestigious award was presented as part of the campaign, which was held from October 2, 2024, to March 30, 2025, coinciding with International Zero Waste Day.
The award acknowledges the university’s commitment to sustainability through a range of impactful initiatives, including sustainable waste management, composting, recycling, awareness campaigns, and zero waste projects. One of the key highlights was the Saukhyam reusable pads initiative, which has had a significant positive impact on reducing waste and promoting sustainability in the region.
The award ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Kerala Dairy Development Minister J. Chinjurani, Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran, MLAs Mukesh and M. Naushad, Mayor Honey Benjamin, District Panchayat President P.K. Gopan, and District Collector N. Devidas IAS. The event also saw the participation of Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s Public Relations Head Brahmachari Sreevalsan, Associate Dean Dr. S.N. Jyothi, Campus Planning and Development General Manager Vishnu Vijay, and Campus Planning and Development Environmental Engineer S. Nithin, among other prominent guests.
In recent months, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was also selected as the top institution in the Kulasekhapuram and Klappana Panchayats for its contribution to the Waste-Free Navakeralam Janakiya Campaign.
