Abstract : In this paper, a tri-band open loop resonator loaded, self-complementary bent dipole antenna is presented, which finds application in telemetry L-band (1.25 GHz) and MANET radio systems. The open loop resonator (OLR) exhibits epsilon-negative (ENG) properties at resonance, when placed in the vicinity of dipole arm. OLR activates additional resonance in the antenna performance giving triple band operation. The antenna has an omnidirectional radiation pattern and has acceptable gain at the operating frequencies. A size reduction of 21% is achieved with enhancement in bandwidth compared to the dipole counterpart.
