Abstract : Prediction of presence of genes in DNA sequences is of high importance in the domain of bioinformatics and genetics. Identification of proper gene splice junctions in DNA sequences is a difficult task. In our work, we have focused on a gene called Factor IX, the absence of which causes a deadly disorder called Haemophilia B. This paper proposes an approach for training the system to identify a specific gene by providing relevant protein sequences and identifying exact locations of splice junctions in DNA sequences. The algorithm proposed in this work has yielded promising results with an accuracy of 96.8% in detecting proper splice junctions for the given gene. © 2005 - 2016 JATIT LLS. All rights reserved.
