Abstract : PFC are used in LED lighting applications for improving the power factor. S6-PFC converter is used as driver for supplying the light-emitting diodes. Unlike usual power supply, this strategy does not have any electrolytic capacitors. The converter has a bidirectional switch with soft switching conditions for turning ON and OFF. Along with the soft switching, the recycling of energy by making magnetizing inductance in the transformer as the resonant component, increases the overall efficiency of the driver. The buck-boost cell in the converter improves the power factor inherently. This paper discuss about the closed loop operation of this converter using PI controller. Variation in output and the switching operation of MOSFET with respect to change in input and load were analyzed. The closed loop S6-PFC converter is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink platform, for a prototype design of 21W/30V LED lighting system.
