Abstract : The increasing use of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) cells in residential buildings requires effective demand management to utilise the available power effectively. This paper presents a household appliance load demand control method based on the Best First Search (BFS) algorithm, implemented in MATLAB. The proposed approach schedules household appliances by considering the available PV power, demand by the appliances, and user-defined priority levels. The demand control problem is solved by using BFS algorithm, which explores possible appliance combinations and selects the best combination that operates within the PV power limit while considering a greater number of appliances and its priorities. To represent realistic household time of the day-based priority variations are also included. Simulation results show that the proposed BFS based method effectively utilises available PV power with maximum number of appliances being supplied at all the times.
