Abstract : The future of power system depends on distributed generation. Biomass plant is one of the main contributors in distributed generation. Gas turbines provide high rated energy conversion from biomass to mechanical power. Maintaining synchronism of the gas turbines in parallel with distribution system is a major concern. Two different techniques namely speed tracking and common error reference schemes are developed for gas turbine parallel operation. The performances of these two schemes are compared based on response, performance indices and maximum speed deviation. The comparison shows that the common error reference scheme is appropriate for operation of gas turbines in parallel.
