Abstract : This paper introduces a compact dual-band MIMO antenna system designed for smartphones, which ensures strong isolation between antenna elements. The system includes eight loop antennas operating in two key frequency bands: 3.8 GHz (3800MHz) for 5 G and 5GHz(4800−5000MHz) for WiFi. Each antenna element is designed to be very compact, measuring only 6.9×6.6 mm2 (around 0.08λ×0.08λ). The design intelligently integrates two folded stubs within the smartphone frame, using an inverted L-shaped microstrip probe to excite the antenna through small gaps. Electromagnetic simulations validate that this MIMO antenna system provides exceptional element isolation of more than 14.5 dB without the need for extra decoupling components. Furthermore, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) stays below 0.2 in both frequency bands, making this design a strong contender for future smartphones.
