Abstract : Resonators are one of the key components in any communication system. Based on the application resonators can be used as filters, couplers, detection devices, etc. This paper discusses the modification of a microstrip line to operate as a resonator and filter. A microstrip line with a low impedance section operates as a resonator and the resonance frequency can be altered without any size change by inserting loops on to the low impedance section. The resonator operates as a bandpass filter by creating open loops with gaps in the low impedance section. Five design structures were optimized using ANSYS HFSS and were validated by measurements using Vector Network Analyzer.
