Abstract : The demand for electric power is increasing day by day and it is difficult to build new power lines while considering environmental and economical aspects. While increasing the loading of routing lines it may result in the poor damping of power system oscillations. This paper presents the design and hardware implementation of GA based TCSC controller for power system stability enhancement. The effective control is brought by the help of most robust artificial intelligence technique, i.e. Genetic Algorithm. The hardware implementation of this work is completed with the lookup table based control achieved from Arduino. MATLAB/SIMULINK is used to examine the transient stability of the system while incorporating TCSC to the Single machine infinite bus system. Performance analysis of the hardware set up obtained shows that this approach is far better and economical than any other alternatives.
