Abstract : Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technology is a potential candidate for implementation of microwave circuits. SIW is used for transmission of electromagnetic waves. It facilitates the realization of non-planar (waveguide based) circuits into planar form for easy synthesis with other planar circuits. In this paper, an SIW cavity backed slot antenna for 2×2 MIMO applications is proposed. This structure offers a compact, low profile, light weight and high gain antenna which is suitable for satellite communication and mobile applications. Our experiments at 2.2 GHz show a return loss below -25 dB for this antenna and a gain greater than 8 dB. © 2015 IEEE.
