Abstract : In this work, the surface composite of AA3003 alloy is fabricated by reinforcing yttrium oxide (Y2O3) particles through friction stir processing. The optimum friction stir processing parameters for fabricating the AA3003-Y2O3 surface composite are determined. The influence of Y2O3 on the microstructure and texture (grain orientation) evolution is comprehensively analyzed using advanced instrumental characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, EBSD). Also, microhardness, tensile strength, ductility, and formability of the developed surface composite material are assessed. An inclusive analysis that associates the microstructure and property of the developed surface composite is presented.
