Abstract : In medical field, different image modalities like PET, CT, MRI etc are used for fusion. The fused image is less random, less redundant and has more detailed information. In this paper, we proposed a method to combine MRI and PET images using a fusion method involving shearlet transform and discrete cosine transform. Firstly, source images are decomposed using shearlet transform, then the obtained low pass and high pass sub-bands are processed and fused. The resultant image is constructed from fused coefficients by using Inverse shearlet transform. Edge indexing (QAB/F) and mutual information (MI) are used for evaluating performance of the proposed method, STDCT and the results are compared with STSVD.
